Review - Anita Blake Vampire Hunter #1 (The Scoundrel)

Anita Blake Vampire Hunter: Circus of the Damned -The Scoundrel- #1 by Marvel Comics. Written by Laurell K. Hamilton and Jess Ruffner. Drawn by Ron Lim. $3.99

Ok, I'm jumping into this title a bit ahead of the whole storyline. As time permits, I will be back reading the trade paperbacks. But this is another title that has been suggested I add to the list horror titles.

The issue is very very wordy, reads like the book it is based on. But since it is trying to go for a literal adaptation, I can understand why. The story is about a female "Animator" (just like it sounds kiddies, she brings dead people back for a short time) and the world a vampires that she has become a part of.

The author and title (at least book wise) has a huge following and anyone that has read them would enjoy this title immensely. But anyone else, I would have to recommend picking up the trade paperback and start from the beginning or you will be lost.

If you love vampires, werewolves, and some other horror creatures thrown in, you will like this comic/books, but be warned this is not a horror comic/book with blood, guts and scare the piss out of you, it does have some romantic over-tones to it as well. So try this one out if you dare, it might become a guilty pleasure or you might want to take a shower with sandpaper.
